Financial Aid at Harvey Mudd

We believe your college choice should be more about fit than finances.

Still, we understand that cost often affects college choice, so it is important for you to understand all of your financial aid options. While each family is treated individually, and family resources vary widely, here are some basic statistics from our 2021–2022 academic year:

  • Our policy is to provide 100% of every student’s demonstrated need (combination of grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study)
  • About 70% of Harvey Mudd students receive financial aid (combination of grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study)
  • The average financial aid award is about $44,743 (combination of grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study), of which about $36,326 (includes need-based and merit-based awards) comes in grants and scholarships aid from Harvey Mudd College (not from government sources)
  • About 45% of Harvey Mudd students receive need-based aid (combination of grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study)
  • 23.38% of incoming first-year students qualify for our merit-based awards (additional 8 percent including Harvey Mudd College National Merit Awards)
  • 56.28% of incoming first-year students receive scholarship (includes need-based and merit-based awards) assistance directly from Harvey Mudd College
